On March 26, 2026, the International Olympic Committee released a new policy redefining eligibility in the female category of Olympic sport. The policy limits the eligibility of athletes in this category to “Biological Females”, determined primarily through SRY gene screening.
This marks a major shift from the IOC's previous framework. This shift has significant implications for the participation of transgender women and girls and certain athletes with differences of sex development (DSD).
