Sport Law Expanding Coast to Coast – Meet our Fab Five New Team Members

September 29, 2021 – (Ottawa) Sport Law is committed to serving sport organizations in their desire to fulfill their mission and live their values. To support our clients in managing through turbulent times, we are delighted to announce the arrival of five new team members, whose knowledge, experience and commitment will fuel our commitment to elevate sport.

Bruce Deacon brings decades of high-performance experience and proven skills in program development, management, and evaluation. He is passionate about sport, having competed for Canada in two Olympics as a marathoner, and effectively applies the expertise he has gained from government, business, and sport leadership to his practice. Bruce brings positive energy, thoughtfulness and a “can do” attitude to each project. He will be a fantastic addition to Sport Law’s expanded Western presence. Cheryl Humphrey has held senior positions in both the non-profit and governments sectors both as a consultant and an employee. She is passionate about working with people in organizations to strengthen their ability to deliver on their mission. Cheryl brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Sport Law team in the areas of strategic and operational planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, executive leadership and leading change. She is excited to apply these skills to support sport leaders and Boards as they look to strengthen their ability to deliver on their mission. Read her full bio here.

Taylor Matthews is dedicated to supporting the sport sector with their communications, change management and virtual meeting management needs. Taylor joins Sport Law with a Bachelor of Commerce in Management as well as a Graduate Certificate in Sport Business Management. She is looking forward to working alongside organizations seeking to create and deliver high-impact communications engagements to enhance positive sporting experiences. Linda Melnick is a highly respected executive with an impressive academic background that blends her deep knowledge of systemic sport issues with practical wisdom. Her graduate research has focused on the professionalization of amateur sport organizations and ways to enhance the ‘business of sport’ in alignment with shared values. A former university player and coach, Linda’s passion for understanding the key factors and conditions driving strategic change is paired with her objective to help sport organizations achieve informed and values-based decisions leading at all levels of sport. Will Russell is a sport lawyer with an extensive background in dispute resolution, governance, and employment issues. Originally from Chelsea, Quebec, Will is now based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Will’s focus is helping our clients in Atlantic Canada and across the country navigate disputes with minimal disruption so that they can concentrate on success, both on and off the field of play. Will blends his legal experience with his interest in organizational health and looks forward to supporting Sport Law clients in creating healthier and holistic policies, practices, and processes.
