Valerie (Val) Koch is a dedicated law student with a passion for helping others! Her interest in sport stems from participating in several different activities including All Star Cheerleading, playing volleyball and ultimate frisbee, and as a spectator, supporting different sporting matches with her father. Val believes that sport can create healthy and inclusive experiences for all Canadians to enjoy. She is committed to contributing to a more inclusive, safe and enjoyable environment through her work with the Sport Law team as their social media specialist.

Val is currently enrolled in the Juris Doctor program at Western University. Beyond the classroom, Val is actively involved in student organizations and academic competitions. As co-President of the Western Law Entertainment & Sport Law Association, she is responsible for organizing various competitions which provide opportunities for students to improve their oral advocacy skills. She also serves as a femtor to first-year law students as an orientation leader, student ambassador, and Western Business Law Clinic case manager.

Before law school, Valerie obtained an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and a post-graduate certificate in Sport Business Management from Durham College. During this time, Val worked for a range of governmental and private organizations, including interning with Sport Law where she began to develop an interest in supporting Canadian sport organizations and leaders.

When not in the library, you can find Val curled up on the couch with a book, on a walk with her dog, or trying out a new dessert recipe!
