Mike’s passion for sport started in his youth, where he excelled at basketball. The lessons he learned on the court paved the way for his legal career, where he was called to the bar in 2019 after obtaining his Civil Law (LL.L.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) degrees at the University of Ottawa. While in law school, Mike co-founded the Sports Law Student Association, reflecting his commitment to excellence in legal practice within the sport industry.

In the early days of his career, Mike honed his advocacy skills in Legal Clinics across North Bay, Sudbury, Brockville, and Ottawa, representing low-income individuals before the Landlord and Tenant Board, the Social Benefits Tribunal, and the Small Claims Court. He then worked as a personal injury lawyer in Ottawa, representing victims of motor vehicle collisions and other claims, before moving to TD Bank as an insurance defence counsel, where he managed complex claims and contract negotiations alongside top-level counsel. While appreciative of these early experiences, Mike’s dream was always to bring his legal acumen to the world of sport.

Mike is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C), providing him with specialized expertise in Canadian privacy law, compliance, and information management—an increasingly important area for sport organizations.

Beyond his professional commitments, Mike enjoys playing baseball and immersing himself in the world of golf. He has also served as a basketball coach and tennis instructor in Ottawa, giving back to the sporting community he grew up in. Mike believes sport is a gateway to learning discipline, forging lasting relationships, and supporting excellence.

Through Sport Law, Mike offers services in both English and French, supporting clients in fostering inclusive, respectful, and legally sound sport environments for the benefit of all participants.
