Angie Bellehumeur specializes in Safe Sport policy development, governance frameworks, and sport integrity. She combines her litigation background with expertise in Safe Sport to help organizations navigate safeguarding challenges, refine policies, and respond effectively to misconduct concerns while maintaining trust and credibility.
A former national champion varsity volleyball player, Angie has been committed to making sport safer since her time as a student-athlete. At the University of Toronto, she was co-chair of the Varsity Board, representing varsity athletes within the university’s sport governance structure. She also led Athlete Ally, an initiative to advance LGBTQ+ inclusion in varsity athletics. Her award-winning leadership in varsity sport governance and culture shaped her approach to Safe Sport, leading her to work with organizations on developing safeguarding policies, strengthening governance frameworks, and aligning policies with sport integrity standards.
She has been co-counsel in multiple complex Safe Sport cases, including a high-profile Canadian safeguarding dispute, and has represented individuals navigating independent Safe Sport complaint and tribunal processes.
As a trauma-informed legal professional, Angie has provided training on trauma-informed approaches to sport organizations, legal professionals, and safeguarding personnel, helping to ensure safeguarding processes are fair, effective, and responsive for all involved. She works with sport organizations to develop Safe Sport strategies that are effective, practical, and aligned with both safeguarding best practices and institutional needs.
