May 18, 2022 – Sport Law, a team of leaders seeking to grow and advance sport, and innerlogic, a company that helps sport organizations measure the state of their culture, have joined forces to provide sport leaders with the cultural knowledge they need to make informed, strategic and ethical decisions. The company leaders came together earlier this year to explore ways they could leverage each other’s talents to support the growing need in the sport sector to measure and monitor how well culture was being experienced at various levels. In the span of a few months, it became evident that both companies had a shared vision of elevating sport through evidence-based cultural data.
Powered by innerlogic’s innovative culture analytics and research base, Sport Law has launched the Sport Culture Index, an evidence-based assessment platform that quantifies culture in sport environments in the areas of safety, well-being, cohesion, empowerment, personalization, belonging, vision, values, environment, accountability, adaptability, and communication. The survey includes 60 quantitative questions, takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and provides a rigorous report of the sport’s culture across multiple levels. Along with segmenting the data through personalized demographics, leaders can also customize open-ended questions to better assess the health and effectiveness of their culture. The information provided by each respondent is aggregated to reveal powerful team and organizational trends. The questions can be answered by anyone within the sport organization’s environment and who self-identifies as an athlete, coach, employee, volunteer, Board of Director, or official.
“Since 2010, we’ve been sharing my research on Management by Values and working with a handful of sport leaders who believed in this humanistic leadership ethos. While we’ve seen incremental success across the sports we’ve worked with, we were looking to collaborate with a company who could help Sport Law measure culture more effectively and take it to the next level. Co-founders, Bryce Tully and Mike Bawol have been exceptional to work with and we are delighted to be partnering with them to help sport organizations fulfill their promise of measuring beyond money and medals, to also measure culture,” shared Sport Law Partner, Dina Bell-Laroche.
“Even in the healthiest of workplaces, opportunities to provide meaningful feedback are often hard to find. Worse yet, people are concerned about providing truthful responses for fear of retribution. While we currently measure success in sport organizations in a limited fashion, there is a growing appetite to understand the health and effectiveness of sport culture. We were looking for a champion within the sport system who had the knowledge, credibility and expertise to support sport leaders in implementing interventions once they have had a chance to review the data. The team and culture coaches at Sport Law are the perfect partner to help sport leaders address their culture gaps. We are delighted to be working with them to scale our impact,” shared innerlogic President and co-founder Mike Bawol.
The Sport Culture Index is supported by a world-leading platform that allows for the most detailed analytics and visualizations of culture metrics available in the sport landscape today. The interactive platform provides detailed analytics and reporting on all supporting factors and sub-factors within each category, which can be further analyzed across custom demographics. Clients can access their online platform, giving them the flexibility to review and organize their data in the most relevant way. Currently, Sport Law and innerlogic are working together to continue to evolve the Sport Culture Index with a select group of sport organizations and are working with universities to further validate the instrument.
Beyond putting out fires and dealing with the fractured trust that is prevalent in the sport sector today, the two companies are hopeful that with real data, sport leaders will be better able to address culture gaps, leverage strengths and restore trust.
