Tia Wintre, BKin, joined the Sport Law & Strategy Group in 2018 to continue supporting sport and recreation organizations to be the best they can be!
Tia’s life work started with her belief in the ability of sport and recreation to be a vehicle for development. Whether it was to strengthen community, international relations, or individuals, Tia recognized the power sport and recreation could have in the world.
Tia began her journey working with the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee assisting in the creation and implementation of a National Women in Sport Program. The program expanded as Tia was asked to work with other Caribbean Olympic Committees helping to Train Trainers in different countries. Tia’s ‘Olympic Movement bug’ eventually led her ‘out west’ working in Vancouver leading up to the 2010 Olympic Games.
After coming home to be closer to family, Tia joined Parks and Recreation Ontario to manage HIGH FIVE, the national standard for children’s sport and recreation programs. As national manager Tia was reminded daily that sport is only as good as the experience provided! Being in her role for more than 10 years, Tia contributed to the risk management, leadership development and quality assurance of more than 450 sport and recreation organizations across the country helping create positive experiences for more than 1 million children annually.
Tia is now looking forward to continuing to make an impact in the sport and recreation sector by helping organizations create safe sport environments and live their values through engaging athletes. She is also looking forward to supporting organizations by enhancing their workplace environment and culture through human resource management, workplace wellness and quality assurance initiatives.
Tia continues to use sport as a vehicle for community development as the founder and owner of Jsport, a provider of co-ed recreational sport leagues for adults in Toronto. She is also a Practitioner member of the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) and is certified in Workplace Investigations by HRPA.
Tia loves being active outdoors, especially with her two kids – where you can find her hitting the slopes, camping or biking. If you want to set up a walking meeting with Tia, please email her at TEW@sportlaw.ca
