Kathy Hare, BAdmin, joined Sport Law as an Associate in 2014 and added her skills in financial and operations design, program management and proposal development. In 2004, Kathy joined Commonwealth Games Canada as their Director of International Programs. Working with community organizations in Africa and the Caribbean, Kathy supported the development of sport programs which addressed social issues such as gender awareness, HIV/AIDS and youth leadership. This work translated into similar programs in Aboriginal communities across Canada while Kathy worked with Motivate Canada over the seven years prior to joining Sport Law.
Since graduating from the University of Ottawa School of Business Management, Kathy has continued to enhance her knowledge base in such areas as community development, social innovation and developmental evaluation. She has a keen interest in supporting the growing area of social development through sport and expanding the impact and influence of sport beyond the playing field.
Over the course of her career, Kathy has had the great fortune of attending the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne Australia in a staff capacity. As a past competitive speed skater, the experience of attending a major games was truly inspiring and ignited the desire to enable others to share in the experience. Creating opportunities for young people to dream of such things when their circumstances wager against them has driven much of her work to date.
While no longer lacing up the skates, Kathy remains committed to leading a healthy and physically active life. She regularly competes in half marathons and enjoys many summer and winter outdoor activities. Not one to shy away from new experiences, she has even been known to take on some the more adventurous ones like canyoneering, zip-lining and white water rafting.
Kathy lives in Ottawa with her partner and enjoys spending time at her cottage kayaking, hiking, cycling and swinging in the hammock.
