“What separates Sport Law from others is the people. As we engage with the team on a range of projects from legal counsel & guidance, to crisis communication advisement to policy development to strategy work, no matter what it is, we immediately feel like they have joined our team and have been part of us from the beginning. Sport Law understands sport, they understand sport organizations & the people who give so much of themselves to their sport. We are becoming a better National Sport Organization because we have an extended Rugby Canada’s team to include the team at Sport Law.”

Allen Vansen
Chief Executive Officer, Rugby Canada

“The CCES has benefited from a range of SLSG services over many years. In working with SLSG on the co-creation of resources, facilitation of workshops, exploration of legal issues as well as the development of policies we have found the SLSG team to be knowledgeable, professional, reliable, responsive and a pleasure to work with. They accurately scope the work to be done, establish realistic deadlines and deliver on time and within budget. The CCES would not hesitate to recommend the services of SLSG.”

Paul Melia
President and CEO, Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport

"The team at Sport Law worked with my teammates and I to figure out who we would become after our playing careers. They helped us find our identities and worked with us to become better versions of ourselves post our athletic careers. What you get with Sport Law is not people looking to fulfill a contract. They offer a human touch to help others figure out who they are and how they can fulfill their dreams. When you have people who can step up and be that guide for you, I'm telling you that's priceless … and that's exactly what they did for us. Sport Law helped us with our first step and the direction we needed to go, and we'll be forever indebted to them for that."

Karina Leblanc
Olympian and Head of Women’s Football, CONCACAF

"Ongoing and umpteen collaboration opportunities with the team at Sport Law has enabled us as an organization to unlock tremendous capacity in multiple areas of our governance and our operations.  From their insights into complex legal situations, to their ability to help us lead in areas of coaching and cultural transformation, their team of accomplished professionals has been an invaluable resource for Ringette Canada."

Natasha Johnston
Executive Director, Ringette Canada

“We have worked with Sport Law for over a decade and have come to rely on them for all of our legal needs. Over time we have grown to use their expanding services in the areas of communications, integral coaching, crisis management, and so much more. When the Danforth shooting occurred a few years back and one of our young athletes was killed, we turned immediately to our friends at Sport Law to help us through our darkest of days. They were our companions throughout the entire ordeal helping us communicate to our members, support the clubs, connect with the affected families and ensure we were able to work through this as a small and connected organization. I don’t know how we would have made it through that time without the support from our friends at Sport Law. They are now an integral part of our team and we rely on them for support on all kinds of projects. It’s comforting to know we can turn to trusted partners like Sport Law to do great work and who do so with a sense of humility, humanity and humour. It’s a tremendous partnership that we are really proud of.”

Grief and Loss Essentials Workshop

Tuesday, November 29 - 9AM - 5PM EST

Our current culture is grief and mourning phobic, and does not invite people to recognize, honour, and express their grief. This mindset translates to different domains where we are too often encouraged to stay strong, be brave, and focus on the future. This leaves the bereaved person feeling disenfranchised and needlessly isolated and can lead to unnecessary anxiety, depression, exhaustion, and burn-out. As the current bereavement model treats loss from a clinical perspective, many are left floundering as they attempt to navigate the wilderness of their grief. Too often grievers are encouraged and rewarded to be stoic, pushing through the loss to focus on the next win, the next competition, the next goal. We must do better.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Understanding grief and loss and important thanatological theories
  • Understanding the impact of grief and the many ways people cope
  • Exploring myths
  • Honing your capacity to better support people through loss
  • Inspiring change – creating more loss literacy in your profession

What’s Included:

  • A welcoming learning environment from a compassionate, skillful, and grief and loss-informed facilitator and grief coach
  • A workbook and a list of resources to support your ongoing loss literacy efforts
  • Connecting with others who want to learn about grief and loss
